i'm not one for an explanation, i'm done living with hesitation, but i know i'll make it to my destination someday your stained glass windows reminds me of who i used to be, when i was more lonely your stained glass windows reminds me of who i used to be, when i was more lonely someday i'll be happy with who i am, but not today keep crawling back to me i'm giving up on your tragedy your stained glass windows reminds me of who i used to be, when i was more lonely your stained glass windows reminds me of who i used to be, when i was more lonely this is who i am, this is who i am this is who i am, this is who i am your stained glass windows reminds me of who i used to be, when i was more lonely your stained glass windows reminds me of who i used to be, when i was more lonely your stained glass windows reminds me of who i used to be, when i was more lonely

about

Under Consideration is Rylan Dines’s first band and first successful musical release since releasing music with Big City Advantage in 2011. Dines's life was tumultuous during his hiatus, to say the least. Over the course of 2014 and into 2015, Dines spent time in 3 separate treatment facilities in order for him to deal with his own personal demons and grow as a person. He struggled with depression and anxiety and had no clear view of exactly who he was or what he wanted to do with his life. After discharging and overcoming the initial fear of not doing well enough to the point where he would have to return, he felt a rush of relief and felt inspired to write about his experiences in therapy. However, he struggled as a musician, finding himself emotionally drained from treatment. He attempted to start various other bands in different genres, from folk to electronic to metal. None of it worked as he couldn’t find the spark within himself. And so, he took a break. As time went on, he met his soulmate, who was an inspiration and was supportive of him and everything that he did. They had a child together, and as he watched the baby grow, he found himself writing more and more, writing mainly about where he was and his surroundings. Despite everything going seemingly well, his fear of failure and the ensuing anxiety left him in such a state that he couldn’t leave his house or even take care of his son between April and May 2017. What came out of this breakdown was Dines’s first true musical endeavor in quite sometime. He put his skills to use, writing songs as a means to cope with his pain. Writing about what was going on with him, he created raw, emotional pieces that were among his best and pushed him further as an artist.

“Stained Glass Windows” is an example of this. Reminiscent of the Eels and Coconut Records, the song is one of self reflection. Dines’s lyrics show the longing in his heart, something that is evident throughout the song. It's easy to empathize with Dines. “One day I'll be happy with who I am/But not today,” he sings. This lyric alone is something that most people can agree with on some level. Through his smooth chord progressions, the melancholy tone that’s almost upbeat, and his quiet, almost broken voice, Dines creates an intimate masterpiece, one that shouldn't soon be forgotten.
